Balochistan Akbar Bugti case: ATC rejects Musharraf's request for non-attendance

  1. Musharraf was accused of orchestrating the murder of Bugti, the chief of his tribe. He was killed in a military operation in Balochistan in 2006 when Musharaf was the army chief and president of the country at the same time.
Federal Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao and former Balochistan home minister Shoaib Nosherwani were present at the court and the court reserved judgement over their request for bail.
Former prime minister Shaukat Aziz, former Balochistan governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and former district coordination officer for Dera Bugti Abdul Samad Lasi were declared as fugitives by the ATC. Also, the court ordered that their properties be seized.
The hearing of the case was adjourned to December 24.
The former president, who had returned from four years of self-exile in March only to run into legal trouble, was granted bail in the Bugti murder case in October by a three-judge bench of the Supreme Court.
Warrants had been issued in June by ATC in Quetta to Musharraf, Aziz, Ghani and Lasi in the Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti murder case.
